Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Yeonsol Kim for using Legato Reader.
Effective 2026-10-01 · Yeonsol Kim
1. The agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Yeonsol Kim ("we", "us"). By installing or using Legato Reader you accept them. If you do not, do not use the app.
2. What the service does
Legato Reader is a Safari extension and companion app that extracts the text and mathematics from a web page you are reading, converts it into a script meant to be heard rather than seen, and reads it aloud. Processing happens on our servers and at our speech provider; an internet connection is required.
3. Accuracy — read this before relying on it
Narration is produced automatically by a language model. It can misread mathematics. A subscript can be heard as a superscript, a limit of integration can be dropped, a symbol can be read with the wrong convention. The app is a reading aid, not a source of truth.
Do not rely on the audio alone for anything that matters — an exam, a proof you are checking, a clinical or financial calculation, or safety-critical work. Check the page.
4. Your account
You sign in with Apple. You are responsible for the device and Apple ID you use. Do not share an account; we may suspend accounts that are shared or automated.
5. Subscriptions, allowances, and billing
- Subscriptions are sold by Apple through in-app purchase and billed to your Apple Account. We never see your payment details.
- Plans and monthly allowances, counted in articles: Free 2, Basic 20 (US$6.99 per month or US$49.99 per year), Pro 60 (US$12.99 per month or US$99.99 per year). Prices shown in the App Store for your region govern.
- A short page (under about five minutes of audio) counts as a quarter of an article. Replaying a page you have already narrated, and narrating a page already in our cache, cost nothing.
- Allowances reset on the first day of each calendar month, UTC. Unused articles do not carry over.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions; we cannot cancel it for you.
- Any free trial ends when a paid subscription begins; an unused portion is forfeited.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's Media Services terms. Ask Apple, not us. If Apple tells us a purchase was refunded or revoked, the entitlement ends.
- We may change prices or allowances. Changes apply from your next renewal, and we will tell you in the app beforehand.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- narrate content you have no right to access or process;
- use the service to reproduce or redistribute someone else's work — the narration is for your own listening;
- circumvent the allowance, share an account, resell access, or automate the service at volume;
- submit content that is unlawful, or attempt to attack, overload, or reverse-engineer the service.
We may suspend an account that does these things, and we will say why.
7. Content and rights
Rights in the source page belong to whoever owns it; nothing here transfers them, and you are responsible for having the right to send us the pages you narrate. We claim no ownership of your content. You may use the narrations we generate for you personally; we grant no licence to redistribute them, publish them, or use them to train a model.
The app, the extension, and the narration prompts are ours.
8. Availability
The service is provided as it is. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we shut the service down we will give at least 30 days' notice in the app and stop charging new periods. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and our providers can fail.
9. Termination
You may stop at any time: cancel through Apple, and delete your account in the app. We may terminate for a material breach of these terms, or if we cease operating.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and the accuracy of any narration. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only so far as the law permits.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of law rules, and any dispute belongs to the courts there. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory law where you live.
12. Apple
- This agreement is between you and Yeonsol Kim only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. Support requests go to support@legatoreader.com.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Yeonsol Kim, not Apple, is responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, and consumer protection claims, and for any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.
13. Changes to these terms
We will post changes here and raise material ones in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance.
